The Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, has lamented his failed attempt to make peace between the Edo states Governor, Godwin Obaseki, and his predecessor, and former chairman of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Adams Oshiomhole. The Monarch recalls when the going was good between the duos, the state was at peace. The Oba made these statements during a political meeting when he urged the sitting Governor Obaseki and his contender, Osagie Ize-Iyamu to sign a peace accord at his palace yesterday ahead of the forthcoming gubernatorial election.
Oba Ewuare disclosed he had known Obaseki since he was serving as an Ambassador.
The royal father revealed he is yet to realize what exactly went wrong with the two politicians in his domain that lead to such face-off.
In his statement, “I was very sad, shocked; what I thought was going to be a smooth ride for everybody, tranquillity in the state, tranquillity in the kingdom, turned to unprecedented conflict.
“I could not believe it that I tried to intervene several times; I even went to the President about their matter.”
The Monarch disclosed he has employed all effort to reconcile the two but to no avail, therefore, he is pleading with President Buhari to come to his aid through mediating between the two in the interest of peace in the state.
He noted that the face-off between the two is having a negative consequence on the general wellbeing of his people in the state.
