The suspended acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, has promised that he will no longer cower but was now prepared to fight back at calculated attacks against his person.
Mr. Magu, in a statement made available to reporters by his lawyer, Wahab Shittu on Sunday, said he will henceforth reply all the allegations against him in public.
In the statement, Magu denied misappropriating funds recovered from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
Shittu said the allegations leveled against his client border on matters that were never brought before the panel set up by President Muhammadu Buhari, to probe the activities of the EFCC under him.
Explaining further he disclosed that the more than 329 million nairas recovered by the EFCC were remitted directly into NNPC's dedicated accounts via remittance under a special arrangement sanctioned by the NNPC, EFCC, and the affected NNPC marketers.
He also said the remittances can be independently verified both at the NNPC and the EFCC records.
The lawyer still dismissed other allegations against Magu including that of failure by Mr. Magu to properly explain the rationale for the exclusion of culprits in the alleged misapplication of N3 billion in the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), as well as assets declaration.
