The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has held a meeting in Abuja over how to accommodate Obaseki as being speculated of moving their train into PDP.
The Punch reported that the meeting was in continuation of further consultation on how conveniently governor Obaseki and his supporters in Edo state shall be accommodated in the party.
It was hinted that the NWC has agreed to grant the embattled governor a waiver in line with the PDP’s constitution to enable him to contest on their platform.
Obaseki was said to have held a series of secret meetings with some top shots of the party including Uche Scondus, the National party chairman of the PDP.
Sources who spoke on condition of anonymity revealed that the two contending aspirants of the party were being persuaded of stepping down for Obaseki.
Meanwhile, Kola Ologbondoyon, the PDP National Publicity Secretary confirmed that the primary election date was actually shifted.
Saying;
“The NWC of the party has postponed the Edo State governorship primary election earlier scheduled for Friday, June 19, and Saturday, June 20, 2020, to a new date of Tuesday, June 23, 2020.
This decision is predicated on the exigencies of party activities.”
Ologbondiyon added, “We discuss modalities for our party election for the Edo governorship, and the decision to postpone till Tuesday, June 23, was arrived at.”
