The disqualification of Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki, from the forthcoming governorship primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has generated speculations that the governor may likely return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), even as the party had indicated interest to accept him back. The Prof. Jonathan Ayuba-led screening committee for the ruling party had announced on Friday, that Mr Obasekiwas unfit to contest the primaries, saying it could not vouch for some certificates he claimed he possesses.

The National Chairman of the PDP UcheSeconduswhile reacting to the development said members of the party would determine its candidate in the forthcoming election. Adding that PDP was ready to accommodate anyone who showed interest to be part of it. he also said the party was not going to deny the governor membership if he decided to join it.

“He is a sitting governor who ought not to be treated that way. If the contested four years ago and was allowed to fly the flag of the party, what has changed between then and now?

“For now, we are not against anyone who wants to join us. Our doors are open and if he decides to join us as an individual, we will welcome him. That’s the only thing I can say for now,MrSecondussaid.

MrSecondus also said he is confident that the party will win the primaries but that he is not authorized to speak on whether governor Obaseki could be considered as the party’s governorship candidate.

Governors under the PDP umbrella are billed to visit him this weekend.
