Yesterday, two former state governors of Oyo state, Rasheed Ladoja and Alao Akala signaled their return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) when they were represented in a crucial meeting of the Oyo State Chapter of the party at the Wadata Plaza. The meeting which was summoned by the National Caretaker Committee of the party headed by Sen. Ahmed Markafi was intended to resolve lingering leadership tussle in the state chapter of the party.
While Biodun Tajudeen Kareem led a delegation that represented Akala, Sen. Femi Lanlehin represented Ladoja. Both men had dumped the PDP to join the All Progressives Congress and Accord Party respectively after serving a single term each.
Addressing the stakeholders during the meeting, Sen. Markarfi commended the stakeholders on their favorable disposition to amicable resolution of lingering crisis in the party. He warned that the era of impunity was gone as the PDP was being reorganized to return power to the people. He urged them not to be selfish in their dealings but assist in the restructuring of the party to wrestle power from the APC.
“We are not in politics to suffer but to form government. PDP was the dominant party in the state but internal crisis caused us to lose election"
“What I don’t want is for one party to dominate. We want a healthy, competitive democracy where people would be free to choose their leaders,” he added.
