The Borno state government in an effort to arrest the spread of coronavirus has ordered a total lockdown of its borders to other states except those on essential duties.
The Deputy Governor of the state, Alhaji Umar Kadafur made the announcement in Maiduguri the state capital on Sunday, saying the order will take effect on Monday, 13th April by 6: 00 am.
In his statement which partly reads;
“The border between Borno and the Yobe States would be shut down completely, only persons on essential duties and vehicles conveying food items, petrol, drugs and other essential commodities would be allowed into the state.
“This painstaking decision became imperative as part of the measures to prevent the spread of the virus into our dear state, following discoveries of some suspected cases in some northern states,” Kadafur said.
Kadafur warned the general public to abide by the order for common good until further directive.
The deputy governor said the state government regretted any inconveniency the order may cause the general public.
He said this was done for the common good of all citizens in other to arrest the spread of the disease in the state.
