The Chairman Committee on Army, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume (APC, Borno South) yesterday raised alarm over rising in job racketeering in the federal government Ministries Department and Agencies (MDAs) calling for the criminalisation of such act.

The Lawmaker said many Nigerians cannot be employed into the government agencies just because they do not know any highly-placed somebody.

Ndume said Nigeria would never know peace ‘until the son of nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody”

The veteran lawmaker stated this while briefing journalist on a bill for the establishment of the Nigerian Army University, Biu, Borno state, which has scaled its second reading in the Senate.

Though he noted some job seekers are desperate and that makes them pay a bribe to secure a job, he lamented such act is wrong and should be criminalised.

In his statement; “If they’re employing people, let people be employed based on the constitutional provisions of federal character and merit.

The Senator added he feel bad about the idea because if he considers his case, he reached where he is without knowing anybody, though he acknowledged there are others who have similar testimony like him, their barrier is that they don’t know anybody.

According to Ndume, it is unfortunate but reiterated that the country would not have the peace it desired until the son of nobody become somebody without knowing anybody.
