The Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Monday Bubou-Obolo, has paved way for the emergence of a new Speaker, Hon. Abraham Ingobere, who was the former Deputy Speaker of the 5th Assembly of the house. The election was necessitated by the recent assumption into office of the newly sworn-in governor Senator Douye Diri, who coincidentally is from the same Central Senatorial District as the former speaker Hon. Bubou-Obolo, comprising Southern Ijaw, Yenagoa and Kolokuma/Opokuma LGAs.
Hon. Ingobere, in his acceptance speech, expressed gratitude to members of the house for counting him worthy to pilot the affairs of the prestigious house, stressing that they will all work together in synergy with the executive and the governor of the state to actualize his policies and programme in the general interest of the state as well as to improve the living condition of the people.
The newly-elected speaker, also said he is ready to promote unity among members irrespective of party affiliations and ideological differences. He promised not to betray the confidence reposed on him by the honourable members. He was nominated by the leader of the house, Hon. Bernard Kenebai, member representing Sagbama constituency 2, and was seconded by Hon. Gibson Munalayefa, Ogbia 2.
Also elected was the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Michael Ogbere, member representing Ekeremor Constituency 3, who was the Chief whip until his alleviation. Ogbere, was nominated by the member representing Kolokuma/Opokuma 2, Hon. Wisdom Fafi, and Seconded by Hon. Bonny Ayah, representing Southern Ijaw 1. Hon. Ingobere, a third-term legislator in the hallowed chambers came on board in 2012 on the platform of the KOWA party.
