A High Court sitting in Yola has sentenced two Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) staff for 42years, each to serve 21yrs jail term for accepting a bribe to compromise election results.
The presiding Judge, Justice Nathan Musa has also asked the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, and the International Police (INTERPOL) to parade the former Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Allison-Madueke, to face justice for her role in providing the sum of N362 million as bribe to the said staff of the INEC so that the election result will be tilted in her favour during the 2015 Presidential general election in Adamawa state.
Accordingly, the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has paraded, Ibrahim Mohammed Umar and Sahabo Iya Hamman, both INEC staff as well as the Minister former Minister of petroleum for conspiracy to defraud the federal government of Nigeria with the internet to compromise the 2015 general election.
Justice Musa revealed the Court delivered the judgement after due diligence and established a conspiracy between the said persons, the Court has found them guilty as alleged and subsequently sentenced them on a three count charges of seven years each as brought against them by the EFCC.
The Judge added that after considering all pleas and decided to be lenient to the convicts being first time offenders, he said their sentence will run concurrently without an option of fine.
In his statement, “The offence has a mandatory provision. I’m constrained by the law. They shall be sentenced to seven years imprisonment without the option of fine.
”However in view of plea to temper justice with mercy, I will allow the sentence to run concurrently”.
