The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, have on Thursday announced November 30, 2019 as the new date fixed for the Kogi Supplementary and Re-run elections in Kogi West Senatorial District and Ajaokuta Federal Constituency.

The new election date followed a court’s declaration which nullified the elections conducted in Kogi West Senatorial District and Ajaokuta Federal Constituency on November 16.

In a statement, INEC said, "INEC met on November 21, 2019 and fixed November 30, 2019 for the conduct of supplementary and re-run elections for Kogi West Senatorial District and Ajaokuta Federal Constituency respectively."

Vigil360 reports that Senator Dino Melaye had alleged that the recent election held was marred by violence and election malpractice by agents and supporters of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

“Three people were shot and two died; four people were killed in Lokoja; seven were killed in the eastern part of the state; this is the record we have so far, apart from those who sustained gunshot wounds," Senator Melaye said.

He also urged INEC to reject the results from Kogi State and do the needful.
