Just two days ago the Supreme Court dismissed the PDP and its Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar appeal challenging the outcome of the 2019 general election, the court said their appeal lacked merit and upheld president Buhari victory; however, agitation for the 2023 presidential ticket has started in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Dailytrust reported that source from the PDP yesterday in Abuja disclosed that some bigwigs within the party have started jostling ahead of the 2023 general election.
It was revealed that some highly placed individuals from the PDP which includes some serving governors were scheming to field in a northern candidate for the 2023 while their southern counterpart felt uncomfortable with the arrangement where they seek to scuttle the move.
A Board of Trustees (BoT) member from the South who spoke on condition of anonymity said: “It is true that some bigwigs from across the region in the PDP were not at ease with the emergence of Atiku as the flag bearer however, they had no choice but to support his candidacy.
“So now that our case has been thrown out of court, there are pockets of agitations regarding which zone should produce the presidential candidate in 2023, the source added.
According to him, the party needs to trade this matter with caution because, already, some members are mulling to switch lane to the APC. He is also considering that option so he declined further comment on the matter anymore,”
However, when Kola Ologbondian, the PDP National secretary was contacted on telephone chart, he denied the claim, saying the party is yet to take decision on the 2023 presidential ticket.
According to the secretary, there is no agitation in the party over the 2023 presidential ticket. He said it is too early to talk about 2023, meanwhile assuring that the party's future is bright.
