The governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi on Tuesday sacked of his Technical Assistants on social media, Mr. Ndubuisi Goodluck Itumo for gross misconduct bordering on alleged misinformation to the public.
The disengagement according to sources closer to the Government House may not be unconnected with the disclosure of the governor’s trip to China.
It was gathered that his sack was announced immediately after he posted on his Facebook page, alleging that the governor will spend 23 days in China for economic trip. The post was reportedly made without due authorization and clarifications from higher authorities.
His removal was contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government/Coordinating Commissioner, Dr. Ugbala Kenneth Igwe.
The statement reads: “The appointment of Mr. Ndubuisi Goodluck Itumo as Technical Assistant (TA) to the Governor of Ebonyi State on Social Media, is hereby terminated with immediate effect.
“The termination is on grounds of gross misconduct bordering on misinformation to the public.
“Consequently, Mr. Itumo is directed to handover all government property in his possession to the Principal Secretary to the Governor before the close of work on Tuesday 29th October, 2019”.
A source who spoke to Vigil360 on condition of anonymity said Governor Umahi was afraid that he could receive the Sen. Ike Ekweremadu treatment in China if his travel plans are disclosed. He further explained that his anxiety heightened after the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu appealed to government officials to furnish the group with travel plans of state governors in the region.
The source claimed that members of the governor's kitchen cabinet are currently suspecting that Itumo may have disclosed the governor's travel plan with the intent of ensuring that he is embarrassed in China.
Meanwhile, it is unclear whether the governor would still embark on the trip as earlier scheduled or not.
