Over 12,562 members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Zamfara state, including former commissioners and council chairmen, have shifted their loyalty from the APC to People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The defectors were formerly received into the PDP by the Governor Bello Mutawalle in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara state.
Among the defectors were three former commissioners, Alhaji Abdulkadir Ahmed, Alhaji Idris Keta and Alhaji Aliyu Tsafe with their supporters.
Others were, Musa Tsafe and Ahmed Kantoma both who were former council Chairmen as well as Director-General, Bashir Kwaren Ganuwa and Saminu Lawali.
Accordingly, all the defectors are from Tsafe Local Government Area of the state.
In their speech, Keta and Habibu Alo disclosed they were lured into the PDP because of the style of the governor’s leadership which has within the short period of time brought peace to their community through his multi-dimensional approach.
They added, the governor has earned their trust through his approach to solving the people-oriented problem through ensuring sustainable peace.
The Governor in his remark commended the defectors for their wise decision and promised them they will be carried alone.
He added, that his government is determined to improve the living standard of the people especially the internally displaced persons who were affected by the security challenges in the last couple of months.
The governor acknowledged that “the resettlement process of all the IDPs in state had reached an advanced stage with the support of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Matawalle assured that the government would not rest until all displaced people were resettled and repentant bandits reintegrated into the society.
Earlier, the state PDP Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Mallaha said the party would continue to unite its members for the good of the state. (NAN)
