Cross River Resident Electoral Commissioner Resigns, Joins Bayelsa Guber Race

The Cross River State Independent National Electoral Commissioner (REC) Dr. Frankland Oyeins Briyal has resigned to enable him to contest the Bayelsa State Governorship election.

 

According to Dailypost, the REC’s resignation takes effect from Thursday, August 8th, 2019. Briyal disclosed this in Calabar on Thursday while addressing newsmen. He explained that he resigned to contest Bayelsa governorship elections come November 16th, 2019.

 

He said, “On Saturday, the 21st of July 2019, a mammoth crowd of meaningful and pragmatic Bayelsans that sincerely love their State held a very peaceful rally in Yenagoa calling my humble self to contest the November 16th Gubernatorial election.

 

“I have resigned my appointment as a Residential Electoral Commissioner in the Independent National Electoral Commission of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with effect from Thursday, August 2019

 

“My resignation letter was addressed to Prof Mahmood Yakubu, the Hon Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission on Monday, the 5th August 2019.

 

“I have also written a letter of appreciation to the humble, very intelligent, amiable and highly revered Chairman of the INEC on same day my letter of resignation was written,” he stated.
