9th Assembly: President of the Senate Releases Official Portrait

President of the Senate, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan on Tuesday,6th August 2019 asked Nigerians to address him henceforth as ‘Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan PhD, CON’. The disclosure is contained in a mail sent to Vanguard and obtained by Vigil360.

Lawan is a member of 9th Senate representing Yobe North senatorial zone under the platform of the All ProgressivesCongress (APC). He became a senator in 2007 after serving one term between 1999 to 2003

The senate president was born in 1959 in Gashu'a, Bade Local Government Area (LGA) in Yobe state. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Geography from the University of Maiduguri, a Master’s degree in remote sensing from Ahmadu Bello University and obtained his PhD in remote sensing from the United Kingdom (UK)

In 2008, he was a member of the National Assembly’s Joint Committee on Constitution Review. In 2009, as chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Accounts. Lawan also initiated and sponsored the Desertification Control Commission Bill. 

On June 11, 2019, Senator Ahmed Lawan of the APC was elected and sworn in as the Senate President of the Nigerian 9th Assembly, after defeating his opponent, Senator Ali Ndume who is also from the same APC platform.
