The Election Petition Tribunal, sitting in Akure, Ondo State Capital, on Wednesday 31st July 2019 nullified the election of IkengbojuGboluga, who represents Okitipupa/Irele Federal constituency in the Federal House of Representatives under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP).
It was gathered that the judgment was based on the defendant(Ikengboju) was said to have sworn allegiance to the United Kingdom(UK) having acquired its citizenship. The tribunal ruled thatIkengbojuis not eligible to contest February 23, 2019, National Assembly election for his allegiance to the UK.
Consequent upon that, the Tribunal declared Albert Akintoye of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the rightful winner of the election and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue him a Certificate of Return and withdraw same from Gboluga of the PDP.
