Nigeria's Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo while commissioning projects in Maiduguri yesterday underscored the need to rebuild the Northeast, ravaged by Boko Haram insurgent. He affirmed that the concerns of rebuilding the Northeast are our most important challenge to us as a government.

Osinbajo made the assertion at the palace of the Shehu of Borno shortly after commissioning some of the projects executed by the outgoing administration of Governor Kashim Shettima. He praised Shettima for doing “extremely well” in executing developmental projects for Borno, attributing Shettima’s performance to his dedication to the people of the state and humanity.

Speaking during the visit, the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, appealed to the federal government to give “special consideration to the sons and daughters of Borno” in public service appointments due to the wiping of a substantial population of the people of the state by Boko Haram.

He thanked Gov Shettima for naming one of the over 40 mega schools after him, while describing Osinbajo as a sincere friend of the state.
