The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has opposed to the proposal for the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government. The statement was made by, Diran Odeyemi, the PDP Deputy National Secretary while addressing journalist on Monday accusing the President Buhari administration of planning to throw Nigerians into another realm of hardship.
Mr. Odeyemi said the advice by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for removal of fuel subsidy will throw Nigerians into hardship.
In his statement, He revealed “it is a sin to add to the burden of the suffering Nigerian masses, especially at this time when food, employment, and security of lives and property have been a problem.
“The IMF dictation, for whatever reason, cannot work in Nigeria, and I am sure Nigerians will reject any hardship at this time.”
IMF Managing Director, Christine Lagarde, had on Thursday, during the opening ceremony of the World Bank/IMF Spring Meetings in Washington DC advised Nigeria government to remove fuel subsidy in Nigeria and use the money to upgrade social infrastructure.
