The United States Government has cleared the air on increasing reports of alleged support for one of the leading Presidential candidates ahead of the 2019 general elections.

The Political Officer of the United States Embassy in Nigeria, Phillip Franz in a chat with newsmen in Abuja, said the US has no anointed candidate for next year's election, stressing that the country would support the Independent National Electoral Commission to organize a free, fair and credible poll.

He also assured that his Home Country will not interfere with the processes.

“Our mission in the country is to ensure a hitch-free, credible and transparent election that would not toy with Nigeria’s electoral acts.

“Therefore, we are looking forward to a peaceful electoral process. We will make sure that the elections are conducted in Nigeria in accordance with the country’s electoral laws. We don’t have any candidate, our candidate is the process.”
