The All Progressive Congress Party (APC) has slammed the rumour from some sections of media that they have called off their National Convention slated for February 2022. The National Secretary of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Senator John Akpanudoedehe made this known through a statement released in Abuja today. However, the APC party revealed though its priority is to put their house in order as it is currently threatening to fall apart following the congresses that were conducted some few weeks back.

Akpanudoedehe revealed that the rumour is nothing but the work of mischief-makers who thrive on fake news against the APC, especially, now that the party is ready to reposition itself ahead of the 2023 general election.

The national party secretary revealed that “The general public is advised to completely disregard fake news on the reported suspension of the planned National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) till June, as reported by some media outlets.”

He added that the caretaker committee was already making a wide consultation nationwide to ensure all progressives speak with one voice through conducting a rancour-free national convention.

He further stated that it was the main reason the party has planned to set up a budgeting and other substructures committee very soon.

Akpanudoedehe explained that critical issues like meetings, National Congress, primaries and congresses are communicated through a known official channel but not through sources as being insinuated by rumour peddlers.

He revealed that “Finally, the party notes and appreciates the continued support of well-meaning members and leaders as the APC Caretaker Committee undertakes the immediate task of addressing contestations within the party, litigations, fallouts of recently-conducted Congresses and generally reposition the party ahead of the National Convention.”

The APC chieftain insisted that as a focus-driven, process-oriented political party, the APC Caretaker Committee under the leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni would not be distracted by the self-serving antics of these sponsors of fake news.
