The Nigerian Army has reassured Nigerians of its commitment to democratic governance in the country. In a statement issued by Army spokesperson, Brigadier General Sani Usman,
the army reiterated its loyalty to civilian rule, while it remains un-distracted from its core mandate of defending the territorial integrity of the country.
The statement is coming at a time when rumours of possible mutiny involving some elements within the armed forces have gone viral. A copy of the statement issued by Brig.Gen. Usman reads:
“This is to inform the public that the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Nigerian Army, has received information that some individuals have been approaching some officers and soldiers for undisclosed political reasons. On the basis of that, he has warned such persons to desist from these acts”.
Vigil360 news learnt that the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. T.Y. Buratai has already raised the issue with Acting President Yemi Osinbajo and promised to nip it in the bud. The COAS may have made good his promise to the Vice President with the recent reshuffle and posting of top military generals last week.
Sources within security circles have accused unpatriotic Nigerians of exploiting the social media to fuel mere insinuations which have been nipped in the bud.
