The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sen. Bola Tinubu says the current administration is yet to win the war against corruption. The former Governor of Lagos state stated this on Thursday during the presentation of a book titled "Making Steady, Sustainable Progress" written by the Presidential Media Team. The event took place at the Old Banquet Hall of the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.
In his keynote address, Tinubu acknowledged the resolve of the current administration to root out corruption and stressed that the move distinguishes it from others. He however insisted that the fight was yet to be over.
According to him "I would be lying if I say the war against large-scale corruption has been won. It has not. It will take time and countless swings of the axe to fall such a deeply rooted tree. But try we must. This is what the president is doing.
"Gone are the times when a minister can pilfer billions of dollars as easy as plucking a piece of candy from the table," he added.
He stated that apart from the ongoing tactics of tracking down those that have stolen from the public treasury, the president must consider an upward review of the wages of public officers and improve their welfare to reduce the attendant temptation that breeds corruption. He also urged the President to always put people of repute in sensitive positions to avoid a repeat of the past.
"We must also take greater care by placing people of character, competence and goodness into key positions. When they fail, they must be removed without remorse or favour."
