Nigerian militant group Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) says it has ended its ceasefire and will resume immediate attacks in the oil-rich south. “We can assure you that every oil installation in our region will feel the warmth of the wrath of the Niger Delta Avengers,” the group said in a statement posted on its website Friday afternoon.
The campaign would be “brutish, brutal and bloody” with the aim of putting “off the fires that burn to flair gas in our communities and [to] cut every pipe that moves crude away from our region.” A ceasefire came into force in 2016 following talks with the government. The militants have not carried out any major attack since the beginning of this year.
The group chided a former top militant in the region, Government Ekpemupolo, aka Tompolo, saying he had failed to live to live up to his leadership roles for those who seek absolute ‘emancipation” for the region. The statement signed by the spokesman of the group. Mudoch Agbinibo, who also announced a string of successful attacks on oil and gas facilities last year making the oil majors to declared force majeure on production.
Attacks on oil facilities in the Niger Delta in that year slashed oil production in Nigeria to its lowest level in at least 30 years, Reuters news agency reports.
