The nationwide excitement which greeted the return of President Muhammadu Buhari from medical vacation from UK has lingered, nearly a month after, with the Cross River State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) planning a Thanksgiving service for the President.
According to a statement signed by the State secretary of the party on Friday, the thanksgiving service will hold on Sunday, September 10, at the St Charles Lwanga Catholic Church in Calabar.
Since the return of the President, his supporters – particularly within the ruling APC – have staged rallies and held religious services to celebrate his healing across the States. The Kogi State Government even declared a one-day public holiday while a private hospital declared free medical surgeries for a week.
Buhari had traveled to London on May 7 for medical treatment which subsequently kept him away from the country for over three months. He returned on August 19, about a week after telling visiting well-wishers “I feel I could go home, but the doctors are in charge. I’ve now learned to obey orders, rather than being obeyed.”
