On Thursday, the Conference organized by the leadership of the National Labour Congress (NLC) in Abuja was disrupted following comments made by the former Governor of Edo state, Adams Oshiomole. It was gathered that Oshiomole during his presentation on the rising call for restructuring, claimed that eminent Nigerians at the forefront of clamour for restructuring of the country were those that lost the 2015 general elections. He stated that the sudden agitation was to distract the current administration, while endearing themselves to the people.
Oshiomole's statement was said to have angered most participants in the conference, with some of them becoming unruly. The conference was disrupted.
The NLC had organized the conference against the backdrop of increasing agitation for restructuring across the country. The event was attended by prominent Nigerians including the Sultan of Sokoto.
The Sultan had in his earlier speech stated that though the unity of the country was not negotiable, there was urgent need for the government to revisit the issue of revenue allocation and federal character.
