Justice Ariwoola Sworn In As Acting CJN

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday swore in Justice Olukayode Ariwoola at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), following the resignation of his predecessor, Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, due to health grounds. Recall that we reported yesterday that Ariwoola was the next most senior Justice of the Supreme Court and was formerly a Justice of the Court of Appeal before his elevation to the Supreme Court in November 2011.


He served as Justice of the Court of Appeal in Enugu, Kaduna, and Lagos divisions between 2005 and 2011.

The jurist, who was born on August 22, 1958, Iseyin in Oyo State, studied law at the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), Ile Ife, Osun State and gained his Bachelor of Law degree with Honours in July 1980 and was called to bar in July 1981.

Ariwoola has served on Election Tribunals in Enugu and Zamfara State in 1999 and also on Election Appeal Courts in Edo, Enugu, Kwara, Rivers, and Yola State at various times.
