Justice Abdulaziz Anka sitting at a Federal High Court in Lagos has fixed Wednesday, 16 August, to rule on whether to proceed to hear a fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by suspected kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, more popularly known as Evans. The Judge adjourned the case on Tuesday after listening to the submissions of counsel to Evans, Olukoya Ogungbeje; as well as the counsel to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Eze.

The other parties listed as respondents are the Inspector General of Police and the Nigeria Police Force which were not represented in court. Evans is demanding for the enforcement of his fundamental human rights as his continued detention violates those inalienable rights guaranteed in the 1999 constitution.

He asked the court to order the police to arraign him before a court of competent jurisdiction or release him immediately. In the suit, he prayed the court for an order mandating the all parties in the suit to pay him the sum of N300m as exemplary damages for his alleged illegal detention.

After listening to arguments from both parties, Justice Anka adjourned till August 16 to rule on suit.
