The 36 Governors in Nigeria under the auspice of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) has disclosed that they will make their position known tomorrow, Wednesday on the issue of petroleum subsidy that is creeping back into the economy and the covid-91 vaccine. The governors made this known through a statement yesterday issued in Abuja through its Head of Media and Public Affairs, Abdulrazaq Bello-Barkindo, saying the meeting slated to be held virtual. Bello-Barkindo said the meeting would be chaired by Governor Nasiru El-Rufa’i, the chairman of the NGF committee on subsidy on petrol, would brief his colleagues before any decision pertaining to supply or retailing of petroleum product is taken.
He added that issues concerning the administering of the covid-19 vaccine would be discussed during the 28th teleconference meeting. Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state the chairman NGF committee revealed that the Presidential taskforce on covid-19would brief the governors on the situation with the vaccine rolled out and the challenges they face.
Subsequently, the chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum, Dr Kayode Fayemi will brief his colleagues on the outcome of his meeting with the committee of pro-chancellors of state Universities. It was hinted that “The educationists met the forum’s chairman last week and presented a number of requests which they believed would improve education at the sub-national level.”
The spokesman of the NGF further revealed that the governors would listen to the activities of the Nigerian governor’s wives. The meeting which is set to commence by 2:00pm would also play a host to three external presentations. One would be a presentation by the Chairman of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mohammed Buba Marwa, on “Managing the Drug crises”. “The Department for International Development (DFID) will be making a presentation on the NNPC Audit reports and what the states should know. And lastly, would be a presentation on trade facilitation in Nigeria through e-customs and a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) structure in partnership with the British High Commission”.
