The Bayelsa Governorship Election Tribunal sitting in Abuja has on Saturday affirmed the election of Senator Duoye Diri as Governor of Bayelsa State, dismissing the petition submitted by Owei Woniwei of Alliance for Democracy (AD). According to the judgment delivered by Justice Owodunni, the petition against Diri was incompetent and lacked merit, adding that the petitioner failed to prove the allegations of false declaration of age and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate against the deputy governor, Lawrence.
This petition comes a month after the Supreme Court dismissed an appeal filed by Timi Alaibe, former Bayelsa Governorship aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenging Diri's candidacy in 2019.
