The Federal Government has declared Friday, June 12, 2020, as a public holiday to mark Nigeria’s Democracy Day celebration.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, Georgina Ehuriah made this known in a statement issued in Abuja yesterday, saying the declaration was made by the Minister of the Interior, Abdulrauf Aregbesola on behalf of the Federal Government.
The statement congratulated Nigeria’s at home and abroad for the entrenchment of democratic rules in the country and for their dogged determination and sacrifices which paved way for our modern democratic governance in the country.
The Minister enjoined Nigerians at both home and abroad to cherish this selfless effort and collaborative governance as demonstrated by the Buhari led-administration which ensures democratic ideals to the Nigerians at large is guaranteed.
Aregbesola reassured Nigerians of government commitment to facing the global pandemic of COVID-19 head-on while urging Nigerians to take responsibility in ensuring the spread of the coronavirus is brought to a minimum.
He said this could be achieved through observing a social distancing and increase in maintaining personal hygiene as well as other regulation as is being dished out from time to time by the COVID-19 task Force.
