The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman to resign and vacate his office. This call was contained in a statement issued by the PDP Spokesperson, Kola Olagbondiyan accusing the INEC boss of allegedly allocating voted to political parties while deliberately cancelling some.

PDP insisted that Yakubu should vacate his office for failing to properly lead the electoral empire with fairness and justice. The PDP accused Prof. Yakubu that under his leadership, the electoral process witnessed retrogression instead of improvement on what he inherited from his predecessor.

The statement partly reads; “The INEC Chairman should accept his failures and vacate office without further delay. This is because there is no way Nigerians can continue to repose confidence in the commission under his watch.

“Of course, not under an electoral commission that condones the invasion of polling units, suppression of voters and stuffing of snatched ballot boxes; an INEC that cancels results in places where the election held peacefully while announcing fabricated results allocated to its favoured political party as valid votes.

The statement added, “The PDP totally rejects attempts by INEC to shift the blames for its failures to other political parties. It is on record that our party had consistently pointed to infractions created and allowed by INEC to facilitate rigging in elections.

According to the PDP, while calling on Nigerians for calmness, they also call on the INEC boss to vacate his office because under him, the electoral system is being threatened with total collapse.
