The action was in line with the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) drive to ease ways of doing business within Nigeria. The circular reads in part. The CGC emphasised that checkpoints mounted outside forty (40) kilometers to the border are illegal while information patrol beyond this point should not last more than 24 hours at any given time.

The CGC reminded all commands that any check point mounted outside 40 kilometers(KM) to the land border is illegal while information patrols beyond the 40KM limit should not last more than 24 hours at any given time.

The 40KM radius applies only to land borders and consequently there should be checkpoints within Port areas, the CGC reiterated.

The CGC further noted that only 2 checkpoints situated at Agbara and Gbaji along Lagos - Badagry - Seme road are statutorily approved.

The CGC further directed all Zonal Coordinators, Customs Area Controllers and Operatives of Customs Intelligence Unit (CIU) to ensure strict compliance even as they will be held responsible for flouting same.

Accordingly, the CGC enjoins members of the business community to always comply with extant laws to help the service serve them better.
