The Kogi state All Progressive Congress (APC) has suspended Simon Achuba, the Deputy Governor of the state. His suspension was hinged on alleged “anti-party activities, during and after the 2019 general election”.
The Kogi APC accused Achuba for what they describe as an embarrassment to the party through some of the actions he took.
Abdullahi Bello, the state APC chairman disclosed this during a press briefing in Lokoja. He said he received several petitions from stakeholders from Iyano ward, Ibaji Local govt Area which is the Local govt to the Deputy Governor.
The party Chairman accused the deputy governor for openly supporting members of the opposition parties during the presidential and state Assembly 2019 general election.
Bello added that the deputy governor has gone in contrary with the party ethics for openly supporting the opposition; this has cast his loyalty to the party in doubt being the deputy governor on the platform of the APC.
Subsequently, a disciplinary committee from the iyano ward of his local govt area has found him guilty of the charges levelled against him and have recommended sanction against him which came in form of suspension.
According to him, the state working committee, after deliberation on the recommendations of the disciplinary committee, resolved and upheld Elder Simon Achuba’s suspension until he responds to the letter that the party will serve him.
He added, the APC as a party does not condone any act of indiscipline, indiscretion and anti-party activities from any of its member no matter how highly placed that person may be.
Bello said the deputy governor’s alleged “series of reckless, negative and unsubstantiated allegations against the state government symbolizes a serious violation of Article 21A (ii), (v) and (vii) of the APC Constitution and amount to acts of disloyalty and embarrassment to the party”.
He said that the decision of the state working committee will be communicated soon to the APC National Working Committee in due course.
