The Presidency has cleared the air on reports speculating the Federal Government is contemplating shifting the inauguration of President Buhari for the second term from May 29th to June 12th. The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu disclosed this in an interview with a journalist on Sunday.

There was some media report circulating last week which speculated that the President Buhari inauguration will hold on June 12th, the day federal government declared as the country’s new Democracy day.

However, Garba Shehu disclosed Mr, President first term will expire on May 29th, 2019, having inaugurated on May 29th, 2015.

Mr, Shehu revealed those peddling such rumour were only attempting to cause confusion in our collective polity.

He promised the Presidency will issue clarification soon on the matter, saying as there was no iota of truth in the report.

In his statement, “The President was inaugurated for his first term in office on May 29, 2015. He ceases to be President on May 29, 2019, if he is not inaugurated for his second term on that day.

Accordingly, he added for the avoidance of doubt, there is no plan to shift its inauguration to June 12th. The inauguration date remains May 29th and those who think is going to be June 12 are wrong and shall be disregarded.

President Buhari had last year changed the nations Democracy Day from May 29th to June 12th of every year.

Meanwhile, a bill that has been sent to the National Assembly to amend the nation’s public Holiday Act had since been passed into law.

The declaration was part of the decision taken to honour the winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election, the late Chief M.K.O. Abiola. Abiola and his running mate, Babagana Kngibe were honoured with GCFR posthumously and GCON respectively.
