The Department of States Services (DSS) has debunked the allegation that it indicted Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, the chairman, Presidential Election Tribunal, for bribery and corruption. Mr, Peter Afunaya, the secret police spokesperson disclosed this on Sunday in Abuja in response to a media report of indictment against the Judge by the DSS.

Mr, Afunaya urged the general public to ignore the report, saying the concocted story only existed in the imagination of the authors.

Describing the report as unfortunate, he opined that framing falsehood against the personality of the public figure is unethical and shall be disregarded.

He revealed the service has commenced an investigation into the veracity of where the publication emanated from with the view of identifying controversies surrounding it.

The spokesperson advised politicians on making some unguarded utterances, to respect rule of law and respect court proceedings regarding activities of the tribunal “and leave the service alone”

He said that the service would continue to collaborate with the media as strategic partners in nation-building. He enjoined media practitioners to be law-abiding and professional in carrying out their responsibility.

He frowned on mischief makers who are bent in causing disaffection in the polity to desist from such acts otherwise; the law will take its cause.

According to the spokesperson, the DSS will continue to remain apolitical in its quest for providing Nigerians with a free and enabling environment for its daily pursuance of their legitimate aspiration to all citizenry.

In his statement, “Attacking judges because the outcomes of cases don’t favour you and keeping quiet when the verdict is in your favour is a mark of insincerity, double standard and mischief. The PDP praised the verdict of the Osun gubernatorial election tribunal because it favoured them; however, they are now singing a different song because they lost their appeal.

“If the PDP continues with their antics of blackmail and smearing judges around with fake news stories, a time will come where judges may be afraid of handling cases, which will ultimately create delay in the dispensation of justice.”
