The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen. Tukur Buratai has urged Nigerians to work collectively through support to the law enforcement agencies and government to win the fight against the insurgents, bandits and other criminals in the country.
The Army chief made this appeal during the annual conference of the Nigerian Army infantry corps, holding in Jaji, Kaduna state.
The topic of the conference is Leveraging Land Power for Current and Future Warfare: The Unity of Combat Arms.
Mr, Buratai reveal while the Army is maximizing intelligence in its operation, maximum support from the civilian populace will go a long way in exposing the criminals and at the same time will further degrading their strength so that Nigerian populace will live in peace once again.
He applauded the military for their resilient fight against Boko Haram, saying that the insurgents are being kicked out from Nigeria’s borders with Niger, Chad, and Cameroon.
In his statement, “Today we have the full initiative in collaboration with the members of Multi-National Joint Task Force countries, that they are working hard to ensure that finally the military sanitizes the northern part of Borno, the border fringes with Niger, Chad, and Cameroon.
According to the Army chief, “With the collective efforts of other security agencies, the Army were able to deal ruthlessly with the Boko Haram insurgents.
He noted that though Within the hinterlands, some of the insurgents till have sleeper cells in the remote areas, planning, meanwhile the military is also planning to counter them.
Acknowledging that fighting terrorism is quite complex that requires a more holistic approach involving government, communities, individuals and all other stakeholders in the country. “If this is done, we will certainly defeat them whenever it rears its ugly head.
Mr, Buratai urged that It cannot be left to the traditional rulers, local government chairmen, state governors or federal government only, or institutions like the military, and the Armed Forces alone. “It is the collective responsibility of all Nigerians.
