In preparation for the 2023 general election, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commenced strategic plans to wrestle power from the incumbent All Progressive Congress (APC). PDP lost out in the poll in 2015 after a frantic effort but lost the power to the APC who was then the main opposition when it fielded its former vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as its flag bearer.

The main opposition now has decided to go back to the drawing board and re-strategize this time around, they plan to project the youth to lead the battle.

According to the party planning committee, the youth summit is billed to hold in all the six geopolitical zones of the country.

While inaugurating the South-East committee for the event in Enugu yesterday, the National Chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus disclosed it was time for the youth to take the lead at the political stage.

He revealed that his party strategy now is to front the youth with the power since the elders have failed the yearning and aspiration of the generality of the citizen, therefore, the youth capability has to be put to test.

In his statement, “Power will shift to the youths; we can’t continue to say, leaders of tomorrow, the tomorrow should be now.

“The elders have failed this country without any apology, so the youths should rise up. We can’t continue to watch while the country is drifting away.

“We have our next election in Anambra State and we are going to show force. We should not take this summit as a joke

“Igbos is known for excellence, so I want us to show others the way, let us make Southeast pride, let us make PDP pride. The young have been agitating for power; this is the time to show what you can do with very important assignments.”

In his remarks, the National Youth leader of the party, Sunday Ude-Okoye enjoined the youth to demonstrate capacity by living up to expectation.

According to him, let the youth prove to the elderly that they are capable and indivisible along the ethnic or religious lines as expected, saying especially that the Igbo youth has fallen to come together for any political bargain saying now it is time to prove the naysayers wrong.

He promised that his generation would bring forth the expected change needed in this country's political space, however, called on the youth to be more united.

Udo-Okoye said why the NWC agreed to commence the program from the south-East is because soon a Governorship election would hold in the state, and PDP wants to ensure they take the state.

Meanwhile, the Summit planning committee was; Peter Aniekwe Udeogaranya, chairman, and Chidiebere Goodluck as vice-chairman, while Chibuzor Okafor, secretary.
