Sheikh Ahmed Lemu Dies At 91

Retired Justice, who served as the First Grand Khadi of Niger State and Islamic Scholar, Sheikh Ahmed Lemu has died in the early hours of Thursday in Minna, Niger State. His daughter, Maryam Lemu confirmed the demise of the educationist via Instagram, saying “Inna lillahi wa inna liayhi raji’un,” she wrote.

“It is with sadness and reverence to Allah that we announce the passing away of our father, Dr. Justice Sheikh Ahmed Lemu OFR, in the early hours of this morning in Minna. Burial arrangements to be announced later.

“It has been a privilege to be the daughter to these two amazing individuals. Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah.”

Lemu, 91, who served as a Sharia judge at the courts of appeal in Sokoto and Niger states was also, the Chairman of the committee constituted by the former president, Goodluck Ebele Johnathan in 2011 to review alleged past electoral violence in Nigeria.

The late scholar authored so many books including books promoting peaceful coexistence between different faiths. He was one of the two Nigerian authors who have won the King Faisal International Award in 2014.
