The Kaduna State government has announced Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamali as the 19th Emir of Zazzau. This was disclosed in a press statement on Wednesday by the Kaduna Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Ja’afaru Sani. His predecessor Shehu Sani died on Sunday, September 20, 2020, after ruling the Zazzau Emirate for 45 years. The statement read in part, “Following the death of His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr) Shehu Idris, the late 18th Emir of Zazzaus, the Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has approved the immediate appointment of Amb. Ahmed Nuhu Bamali as the 19th Emir of Zazzau. “Bamali is the 1st Emir from the Mallawa ruling house in 100 years, following the death of his grandfather, Emir Dan Sidi in 1920.”
“All other arrangements for the installation ceremony and presentation of the staff of office would be announced in due course.”
Amb. Bamali was born in 1966 and studied Law at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He also obtained a master’s degree in International Relations and Diplomacy and a diploma in Organizational Leadership from the world-renowned, Oxford University.
He has worked in the banking sector, as Executive Director and eventually acting Managing Director of the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Corporation.
He was a permanent commissioner in the Kaduna State chapter of the Independent National Electoral Commission in 2015.
He is also a fellow on the Conflict Resolution of the University of York, United Kingdom.
Before his appointment as Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Bamali held the title of “Magajin Garin Zazzau” and served as Nigeria’s ambassador to Thailand, with concurrent accreditation to Myanmar.
