The 18th Emir of Zazzau kingdom, Emir Shehu Idris has passed on Sunday at the age of 84. Emir Shehu Idris who ascended to the throne in 1975 at the age of 36 is one of the longest-serving monarch in Nigeria. Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai who confirmed the news of Emir Shehu Idris demise, described him as a rare gem, a source of wisdom, guidance, and a true father of all, praying that God Grant his soul abode in Aljanna Firdaus.

According to the Kaduna state governor “It is with great sadness that I confirm the passing of the father of our state, His Highness Emir of Zazzau, Alh (Dr.) Shehu Idris CFR.

“He died at the 44 Military Hospital Kaduna today after a brief illness. Janazah prayer in Zaria is scheduled for 5 pm.”

Alhaji Shehu Idris spent 45 years after He was installed as the 18th Emir of Zazzau on February 8, 1975, following the demise of Alhaji Muhammadu Aminu, the 17th Emir of Zazzau. He was the oldest and highest-ranking traditional ruler in Nigeria.

Alhaji Shehu Idris was also the Chairman of Kaduna State Council of Traditional Rulers until the time of his death.
