The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has today slammed the remarks made by the Miyetti Allah Kautel Hore leader, Bello Bodejo that all lands in Nigeria are owned by Fulani. The National President of the AYCF, Yerima Shettima explained that contrary to Bodejo’s claim, nobody owns any land in Nigeria but the Federal Government according to the land use act.

The Fulani leader, Bello Abdullahi Bodejo had yesterday while reacting to the quit notice issued to herdsmen by Governor Akeredolu of Ondo state said that no power can remove Fulani herdsmen from any forest in Nigeria.

Bodejo said Fulani herdsmen own all the grassing lands in Nigeria and that cannot be contested.

As the ultimatum issued to the herdsmen expired yesterday, the southwest Governors and two of their northern counterparts sat with the Miyetti Allah leadership yesterday where open grazing especially in the night was banned after the meeting.

Shettima in his remarks said Bodejo’s claim was a mere imagination which only exists in his world.

He explained that “That is a stupid talk, nobody owns lands, the government owns them.

The AYCF continued, “The quit notice issued was a bit disturbing in this era when there is much suspicion across the board, at a time we are faced with a lot of challenges.

According to Shettima, at this crucial time where we are supposed to be talking about Unity, some interest came and started talking of a quit notice against citizens of our country, it’s disturbing especially when it is coming from a sitting governor who is a learned person, it’s unfortunate.

He however expressed optimism that since the leadership of all the groups is now on a dialogue table, a tangible truce would arrive at the end of the meeting, Shetima said.

“I understand they had a meeting with Miyetti Allah yesterday, they arrived at a conclusion and I hope that will be sustained and they stand by the rules and hope such a thing never repeats itself again.”
