The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has expressed worry over the unabated insecurity that has continued to take its toll on the northern part of the country. The group condemned in strong terms the endless killing that is consuming the north in their number.
Emmanuel Yawe, the ACF spokesman in a statement yesterday charged President Buhari to live up to the oath of office he took to protect the lives and properties of Nigerians.
ACF cited an example of one of the incidents that were more worrisome, stating gunmen have started hunting Nigerians right from their homes, citing the incident of ABU Zaria staff quarters that was invaded where a Lecturer and his family were abducted in broad daylight.
The statement noted that while the wife and a daughter of a worker of the university later escaped following a gun battle between the kidnappers and the police, the university worker was taken away by the bandits.
In the same Zaria also on Saturday, nine students of the ABU were secured from the hands of the bandits when the ransom was paid on their heads.
Accordingly, the students from the Department of French who were traveling to Lagos for a program at the Nigerian French Language Village (NFLV) in Badagry when they were abducted along the Abuja-Kaduna road last Sunday by gunmen.
The ACF expressed anger that the spate of insecurity in the north was becoming unbearable and would not be acceptable from the authorities. They blamed President Buhari being the commander in chief for failing to protect Nigerians from the hands of the terrorists.
The statement also condemned the utterance of the Police Affairs Minister, Mohammed Dingyadi for misleading the public that the activities of the bandits in the North were degraded. They reminded the president that being a Muslim the implication of taking an oath with the glorious Qur’an and failing to live by it.
The group said they were just conveying the grievances of the Northerners to the bear so that he should be reminded the northerners are bleeding in their number and something need to be done urgently. “It is getting too late,” the statement noted.
