President Muhammadu Buhari has yesterday night met with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu at the statehouse where he expressed concern over the growing tension of the EndSARS protest staged by the Nigerian youth, directing the IG to restore order.
On his verified Twitter handle @MBuhari, the President appealed to Nigerian for calmness assuring that he is aware of their plight and action will be taken soon.
Buhari who expressed the commitment to bringing erring officers to book, said Nigerians have the right to express their grievances when their rights are stepped upon.
His statement which partly sated, “I met again with the IGP tonight. Our determination to reform the police should never be in doubt. I am being briefed regularly on the reform efforts ongoing to end police brutality and unethical conduct and ensure that the Police are fully accountable to the people.
“The IG already has my firm instructions to conclusively address the concerns of Nigerians regarding these excesses, & ensure erring personnel is brought to justice. I appeal for patience & calm, even as Nigerians freely exercise their right to peacefully make their views known.
Buhari continued, “The vast majority of men and women of the Nigeria Police Force are patriotic and committed to protecting the lives and livelihoods of Nigerians, and we will continue to support them to do their job,”
Protesters across Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja have been agitating that the SARS part of police must be scrapped because of the extortion and corruption tendencies of the outfit recorded in recent times.
