The Founder of the Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force (NDPVF), Mujihad Asari-Dokubo has said the plight and struggles to restore the Biafra Republic is an effort in futility under the leadership of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), saying, Kanu has completely derailed from the cause of the struggle. Dokubo, stated this while speaking to the Vanguard newspaper expressing his regrets for associating with Kanu from the first place. He said "It gives me regret that in my life, I ever associated with a person called Nnamdi Kanu, especially during his crisis with government, stressing his greatest regret was associating himself with Kanu.
The former militant leader continued, “I can’t make peace with somebody like IPOB leader again, It’s a foreclosed deal because Kanu has nothing to offer other than continue derailing our common struggle."
He said "With Nnamdi Kanu, there’s no hope for Biafra. Those of us who get close to him know he’s not fighting for any Biafra. Nnamdi Kanu is just one individual in Biafra, so, we shouldn’t make him important, he’s not. He’s just like everyone one of us.
Dokubo reiterated that the IPOB leader is a fraud "He’s not in any struggle. Whatever spell he has cast on the Igbo will be removed very soon and their eyes will open” When he was in trouble, all of us came out to defend him because an injury to one is an injury to all. We risked our lives by speaking in support of him, for him to be released from prison and for him not to be killed.
He further explained that Kanu "Now, he sees those of us who fought on his behalf for his freedom as his followers. Some of us regret ever lending our voice. We would have left him to rot in jail because he’s caused more harm to Biafra struggle than anyone else."
The NDPVF drew the attention of biafrans to listen to Kanu especially when he is making his broadcast? He insults every Igbo person that seeks to disagree with him, He has also extended his insults to other tribes including the Ijaw people," Dokubo who identifies as a Biafran initially said while explaining how Kanu's antics have continued to negatively impacts the Biafran struggle.
Dokubo opined that with his present attack directed on, Ralph Uwazuruike and Nnia Nwodo (Ohanaeze leader) is unacceptable. Now, he has extended his venom on, Pa Edwin Clark who has never identified as a Biafran.
He said Biafra is the former Eastern Region. And Pa Clark has never been an Easterner but from the Western Region to Mid-Western Region. Therefore, Kanu has gone outside the Igbo land to abuse Pa Clark, Isaac Boro, Ken Saro-Wiwa.this would not be accepted from him.
The former militant leader opined that how can Kanu bring unify the biafrans if he goes around insulting everybody including leaders in the region? He questioned whether Biafra struggle was an exclusive Igbo struggle?
Asari Dokubo said with Nnamdi Kanu style of leadership he is pursuing, Biafra will be worse than Southern Sudan even if he succeed because it will promote Igbo hegemony over the Ijaw and the Ibibio’s and so on.
He accused the IPOB leader of being power-drunk. He said the struggle is not even won but Kanu has already assumed the position of leadership, calling himself the supreme leader.
While explaining Nnamdi Kanu antics, Dokubo explained that there fall out, was during the Anambra governorship election when the IPOB leader said there would be no election in the state which he disagreed with him. Saying is a fatal mistake to boycott election, is better to elect their sympathizer than living the place vacant as an open enemy may seize the opportunity to use the state resources against them. Kanu declared that day ‘Ofe nsala’ day.
Similarly, during the 2019 general elections, Dokubo suggested to Kanu to vote out President Buhari and pledged their allegiance to a different person, so that when that person does not carry them along, he will acknowledge they helped him fight Buhari. Nnamdi Kanu kicked against that too and called him a saboteur, Asari added. However, he made U-turn and said people should go and vote on a promise that he had finalized the deal. Nearly two years down the lane, nothing seem to be true, we have not seen the signed, sealed, and delivered documents.
Asari said, Kanu is yet to tell them with whom he signed the said documents and did not apologize for misleading his followers, rather, he continued calling us names. Saying he is not a member of PDP but would have been happy if they stopped Buhari from achieving the second term.
The former militant leader said “The truth is that the vast majority of Biafrans don’t want anything to do with Nigeria. Majority of us want to leave, but Nnamdi Kanu through his Radio Biafra has been able to reach out to people and has derailed the Biafra struggle into a cult struggle. He said who go about attacking people who are opposed to them. Before my quarrel with him, nobody was against him but now, people are no longer afraid of him." He concluded.
