The Department of State Services (DSS) has denied allegation suggesting its staff assaulted an aviation staff at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International airport, Abuja. The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) had yesterday issued a statement on social media alleging a DSS official assaulted its staff that was on duty and breached a security protocol.

However, in a statement issued by the DSS through its media spokesperson, Dr. Peter Afunaya, denied the allegation, saying, its staff was well trained and cultured personnel that would not contemplate behaving such in public place talk less of assaulting another agency worker.

Afunaya urged Nigerians to disregard such allegation, saying that the DSS value airport as one of the Federal government's most important assets and has remained at the forefront of protecting it and other related assets of government.

In his statement, “It takes their security seriously and cannot breach it. As a strategic partner, the Service holds FAAN and its staff in good esteem.“Both agencies have, over time, enjoyed robust working relationships in the areas of training and exchange programs,”

The spokesperson added, that there were other avenues other than the social media for resolving misunderstanding amongst staff of two agencies that have had a history of synergy in the performance of their duty.

He reiterated that the DSS has a high value for inter-agency synergy not just with airport authorities but with any partnering member it finds itself working with for the betterment of the Nigerian state at large.
