The Nigerian Police Command in Adamawa state has set up a Special Task Force on Sunday, May 10, to checkmate the excesses of the popular notorious cult group called "Shilla Boys" who operate basically in the state capital. The gang are mainly made up of young men between the ages of 15 and 25, who often disguise as commercial tricycle operators in Jimeta, Yola and environs. They use dangerous weapons on hapless victims during their operations.
Perturbed by the ugly trend plus increasing threat posed by the activities of the miscreants, Adamawa State Police Commissioner, Mr Olugbega Adeyanju formed the task force which is to be headed by the Deputy Commissioner, Ajani Musbahu.
The development came barely 24 hours after three of the Shilla boys where served jungle justice by irate youths in Yola, the Adamawa state capital, who caught them while defying the curfew imposed in the state to perpetrate their nefarious around 10 pm, wherein they disguised as good Samaritans conveying patients from the hospital, but they had snatched a tricycle and dispossessed the passengers of their personal effects before attempting to escape.
Announcing this in Yola on Monday, the Spokesperson of the command, Suleiman Nguroje disclosed that the setting up of the task force followed increasing activities of the miscreants on innocent citizens.
“The Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adeyanju, has formed a task force team to go after the radical and dangerous Shilla group into their hideouts.
“The Deputy Commissioner of police, Ajani Musibahu, is to head the team,” Nguroje said.
He added that the commissioner had urged the officers of the task force to be professional and operate within the confines of the law while discharging their duties.
On the recent killing of three suspected Shilla boys by a mob, he urged residents to desist from taking laws into their hands or risk facing the full wrath of the law.
