The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has ordered markets to open to the public three days a week.
According to the new order, the markets will be opened on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm.
The statement was issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the FCTA Minister, Mr Anthony Ogunleye, yesterday, saying the directive was part of the measures to restrict the spread of the dreaded coronavirus in the FCT.
Accordingly, the statement was directed by the FCT Minister, Mohammed Musa Bello yesterday during the meeting with FCT market mangers and the top hierarchy of the FCT police Command lead by the police commissioner, Bala Ciroma.
The Minister who was represented by the Director of Security Services Department, Adamu Gwary revealed only retailers would be covered by the directive to operate in the market, but did not cover whole sellers.
Meanwhile, the minister directed market managers and the FCT Police Command to ensure compliance by monitoring all entry and exit points of the various markets as well as activities of the traders.
The Minister urged the FCT residents to only patronise markets within their neighbourhood to reduce overcrowding in the major markets.
