Lagos Suspends Religious Gathering With More than 50 Worshipers

The Lagos state government suspends religious gatherings of 50 people and above across the state for 4 weeks due to the increasing number of the pandemic coronavirus case in the nation. The announcement was made by the state commissioner for home affairs, Anofiu Elegushi, and the measure is to take an immediate effect.


The decision was reached after extensive deliberations with religious bodies under the umbrella of Nigeria Inter-Religious Council comprising Lagos Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria(CAN) and Islamic leaders.


The commissioner revealed the decision was in the interest of Lagos citizens to curtail the spread of the epidemic ravaging across the globe. Also to ensure full implementation, a 15- man committee co-chaired by the commissioner and permanent secretary of the ministry of home affairs, Adebunmi Adekanye was set up.
