The Federal Government has disclosed why it set some 104 members of Boko Haram free.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Sadiya Umar Faruk stated this on behalf of the government why they decided to set free 104 repentant Boko Haram members.
Faruk disclosed this when she received the Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Gabriel who was represented by, Maj. General Bamidele Shaffa in her office in Abuja.
Umar-Farouq said in the determination of President Buhari administration of curbing the spate of insurgency to its barest minimum, the government was set to give the terrorist a second chance to retrace their steps.
In her statement; “It is a very important programme for the ministry, one of the mandates of the ministry is to focus on the early recovery aspect of the North-East region and one of such components of early recovery is re-integration, rehabilitation of these affected communities and the repentant Boko Haram insurgents,”.
The Minister applauded the achievement of the ‘Operation Safe Corridor’ for its efforts of ensuring the repentant terrorists are integrated back to the society, saying it will go a long way in addressing the challenges of insecurity to a large extent in the de-radicalisation, rehabilitation and reintegration of the insurgents who have denied the North-East part of the country peace.
