Federal Government has on Thursday directed the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) to block over N9 million unregistered sim cards until users present themselves, Minister of Communication, Dr Isa Pantami said.
Pantami made the disclosure in a statement, saying “As, at today, preliminary investigation revealed that we have over nine million unregistered SIM cards in Nigeria.
“I have directed the NCC to immediately block those numbers until the users present themselves.”
Earlier in the year, NCC had advised Nigerians against buying pre-registered sim cards in a bid to curb financially based crimes, adding that anyone found using the sim would be fined or jailed upon conviction.
